An 11×17 laser printer can be hard to come by.
These laser printers are generally something you need to get from large copier company. This is alright for larger businesses doing lots of printing, but completely unnecessary for folks that aren’t doing a lot of printing.
The reason for this is because you’ll end up paying for service plans and even a cost per print plan. Even if you are able to buy the machine without the service plan, you’ll still end up paying a premium because after all the sales person will need to earn a commission on the deal.
After scouring the Internet for a reliable 11×17 laser printer that I could purchase direct, I did find one good solution. I was able to purchase a nice 11×17 color printer without having to call up any of my local copier companies. It was even shipped directly to my home office and the delivery man actually walked it into the house for me.
This 11×17 laser printer was the Konica 7450 4039322 Magicolor II. It is one of the few machines you can get without purchasing a service plan and toner can be purchased separately. The machine can print on paper up to 12×18 so it is perfect for 11×17 printers like myself. This is great since many times companies claim to have an 11×17 printer or scanner and it actually only prints or scans an area of 11×16.5 inches.
Another thing I like about this printer is that it has a fast first copy out. I can use the printer when it is completely cold and get my first letter sized print in less than 9 seconds and an 11×17 print doesn’t take much longer than that. This is perfect for me since I don’t always print on a daily basis.
This machine is also an all in one, so you don’t need to worry about buying a separate machine to make faxes, scans, or copies.
The only downside to this 11×17 laser printer is that it is larger than your standard size printer. I cannot fit in underneath my desk on my printer shelf without worrying about constantly kicking it. This really isn’t a huge problem though, it just means I don’t have to bend down to retrieve my prints. I now keep it on a separate desk and it is at waist level.
